Sault Ste Marie location was very dirty outdated and Ghetto. Bus station is located inside their front lobby so there was always transits and riff raft hanging around. Would definitely not recommend. I actually booked on the reputation of Howard Johnson's name this is a far cry from it. This location should be demolished. You would be better off to sleep in your car.
Avoid this hotel. I cannot stress this enough. Very outdated and very scuzzy area. Noticed a lot of boarded up windows from obvious break ins. Hallways were hot and humid and when we got into the room the rug had a lot of stains. The bedding was filthy and I felt uncomfortable leaving my car unattended. So much wrong with this place and not even worth the low price I paid. Only good thing is they allow pets and it's quite obvious that they do just by looking at the floors. Just GROSS!
Worst experience ever at a hotel booked for two night was descusted with the place so checked out the next day. Had to argue for a hour to get my money back for the second day I refused to stay and they tried everything to RIP us off and say we only paid one night then they went and tried to charge another 2 nights to our Visa because we had but it there as the deposit . Dont ever stay here and if you do watch your self they are scam artists fraudsters. Hope they get shut down and charged
Room was okay... Very Hot inside hallways... Uncomfortably hot having continental breakfast next morning not a very good selection could I had some fruit other than green bananas.... How to walk down a lot of hallways and upstairs to get to my room place was not very busy.... Looks like half the hotel was abandoned the outside is in shambles.. and the inside has a very strong odor.... On the upside very Convenient location. But once paid got asked if I had another credit card as well which I found very odd.... Not up to Howard Johnson standards by my means... Won't stay again
We checked into the hotel and my wife refused to use the main floor washroom. She said it had an overwhelming scent of urine and the walls under the sink was broken down. We decided that maybe the room would be better - we were WRONG! The door we had to force open as it was firmly wedged and to close it we had to do the same. The room looked fine until my wife wanted to have a bath... She immediately had me drive to a store to buy comet cleanser and disinfectant wipes as there was an obvious spot of feces on the metal leg of the sink and the bath tub was stained with what looked like the calcium build under whatever mat used to be in there. The fridge in the room stank, we did not use it. The beds were comfortable but the security doors card swipes are all broken requiring you to walk all the way around to the main entrance. We will never be back. We've never stayed at a 'bad' Howard Johnson but there is a first time for everything.
